Dust In The Wind

I didn’t hear the rock band Kansas singing their hit song Dust in the Wind, but that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been a lot of it blowing around the last couple of days. A lot of it!

The high winds we had on Monday subsided a little bit yesterday, but there were still plenty of gusts that made leaving an RV awning or door open a risk.

While Terry was at the hospital picking up her dad on Monday, I was busy writing stories for the new issue of the Gypsy Journal. Sometimes when I get into writing mode I lose all track of time and what’s going on around me. It was one of those days, and until the wind got too intense I had left the windows open in our motorhome to avoid using the air conditioner. It wasn’t until that evening, after Terry’s dad was home and we returned from dinner with Greg and Jan White that Terry realized that just about every surface in our Winnebago was covered in a film of dust. Honestly, I don’t know why the woman doesn’t smother me in my sleep sometimes!

But she just got out her handy Dyson DC34 hand-held vacuum and started cleaning things up, and followed up with a damp micro fiber miracle cloth. She didn’t even yell at me, even though I sure deserved it.

Yesterday was another day of working on the paper. Things were rolling right along when suddenly my iMac froze up and I had to manually reboot it. I had been so busy that I had forgotten to hit save, which is a real dumb thing to do, and for some reason the auto save didn’t kick in. The result was that I lost the last four pages that I had laid out and had to go back and redo them all over again. Talk about frustrating!

After rebuilding those pages, saving as I went, I formatted an interview with my friend and fellow indie author Bobbi Ann Johnson Holmes for my self-publishing blog. Bobbi is a very talented lady, check out her interview.

A little after 4:30 we left to drive down to Florence, about 35 miles southeast of us, to meet our dear friends Butch and Jodie Spiller for dinner at Mount Athos Restaurant Café. Butch and Jodie have been wonderful supporters of the Gypsy Journal forever and are two of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. Jodie, who is an avid quilter, taught many craft classes at our rallies over the years. It was great to get to spend some time with them.

Mount Athos is a very nice family owned restaurant serving excellent Greek, Italian, and American food, and everything we had was delicious. It definitely gets added to our Favorite Restaurants guide!

It was dark by the time we left the restaurant, so Terry drove home. A few more strong wind gusts caught us along the way. I sure hope this system eventually passes on, because I’d really like to open the windows again. But until it does, they’re staying closed. Even Terry has a limit to her patience and I have to sleep sometime!
